Joanne Kendrick

Joanne first became intrigued with Nature when at age five she spent hours watching a colony of red harvester ants collect wild sunflowers, Johnson grass, and burr clovers in a vacant field. Her love of wildlife and her appreciation for the beauty of the natural world blossomed over the years. So did her commitment to protect and conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends . . . for those of us living today and for future generations. 

Joanne and her husband Jerry are native Texans. They first visited Sedona in 1992 when they fell in love with the majestic grandeur of the Red Rocks; the incomparable beauty of the area; the magnificent dark skies; the temperate high desert climate. They continued to visit Sedona each year with the dream of someday living here.  That dream came true when they retired to Sedona in 2010.

Joanne has an undergraduate degree in management and a master’s degree in business administration.  From 1995 to 2010 she was the Administrator of Southwest Diagnostic Imaging Center in Dallas, one of the largest outpatient imaging centers in the United States. There she worked with an outstanding team of neuroradiologists, radiologists, directors, supervisors, technologists, nurses, and administrator staff.

Joanne served as President of the Texas Radiology Business Management Association; she served on the Advisory Board of Schering AG, a research-centered German pharmaceutical company; and she was a member of the Executive Committee of the Texas Radiological Society, the Radiology Business Management Association, and the Association for Medical Imaging Management.

Joanne’s interests include playing the piano, singing, hiking, working in her desert landscape, reading, cooking, and needlepointing.  She and her husband love to travel. 

Joanne is honored to work with the volunteers of Keep Sedona Beautiful who also care deeply about preserving Sedona’s wondrous starlit skies, safeguarding wildlife habitat, abating noise, conserving water, and protecting the land.

Michael Yarbrough 

After 15 years of increasingly longer stays in Sedona, Mike Yarbrough and his wife, Mary, made their full time move to Sedona in 2013.  The move followed Mike’s retirement from his law firm.  Mike had practiced over 35 years in Columbus, Ohio where he specialized in civil litigation with a focus on product liability and chemical exposure cases.  He earned his JD from Northwestern University.

After graduating from Notre Dame in 1970, Mike and Mary served in the Peace Corps for 2 years in Palau, Micronesia.  This volunteer experience continued throughout his career as he served on boards of various non-profits and promoted pro bono legal services for the local bar association.

Mike is the proud father of three sons and grandfather for six grandchildren who he visits frequently.  He is an avid hiker and is engaged in several volunteer activities in Sedona, including Friends of the Forest and serving on the board of the Sedona Public Library.

Georgia Munsell
 
Georgia Munsell grew up in a suburb west of Chicago. Majoring in education and speech, she graduated from Purdue University. However, instead of teaching, Georgia entered the business world working in sales and marketing for such companies as United Airlines, Dun & Bradstreet, McKesson, and Wells Fargo Bank. While working full time, she earned a MBA at night from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA. Before retiring, Georgia was an investment advisor with The Portola Group. Georgia and her husband Mark, have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, Connecticut and Vermont, building or restoring houses wherever they settled. Since 2008, they've lived in Sedona but do spend summers on the water in Lamoine, Maine.
 

At KSB, Georgia is Secretary, Chair of the Development Committee, Chair of the Speaker Series, a Litter Lifter, a member of various other committees and member of the Executive Committee. Georgia enjoys hiking, biking, kayaking and cooking. She looks forward to working with KSB to make a difference and to continue Preserving the Wonder™.

Abbie Denton was born in Galveston, Texas. She graduated with a BA in Accounting from Kennesaw State in Kennesaw, Georgia and with an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Houston in Houston, Texas. Abbie founded and established Denton Accounting located in the Village of Oak Creek in 1999. She specializes in Quickbooks and most major accounting software and point of sales systems. She is active in several tax and accounting associations and is currently studying to become an Enrolled Agent with the IRS.
 
Abbie has three children and six grandchildren. Married to husband Jonn since 2003, they live in Sedona with their Golden Retriever and cat. Her hobbies include, cooking and hosting international cuisine dinners for family and friends, camping, watching foreign films (a real movie buff), traveling, and drawing.

James Eaton
James Eaton 

Jim Eaton was born in northwestern Illinois.  After serving with the 24th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron in Austria after the end of WW, he studied architecture, languages and journalism at Iowa State University.  Upon graduation Jim worked in advertising and marketing for a large equipment manufacturer for 33years and an additional eleven years as a consultant after retiring to Sedona.  His experience took him to many refineries, petrochemical plants, pipelines, and major construction projects as well as scores of underground and surface mines in US and abroad.    

In Sedona since 1986, he served as president ‘95 and chairman‘96-98 of Keep Sedona Beautiful. He wrote the weekly KSB column in Red Rock News for four years; received the KSB Norman McGee Award, KSB’s highest honor, in 1997 and a Community Service Award in 2009.  He returned to the KSB Board in November, 2014.          

Jim has been involved in various volunteer jobs with the City of Sedona since before it was a City.  He was campaign manager of the election drive which incorporated Sedona as a City in 1987; Vice chair ‘88-90 of Sedona Planning and Zoning Commission and member 2000-2010; member of Sedona City Council ‘90-94;  founding chairman ‘97-00 of the City's Historical Preservation Commission where he co-authored Sedona’s first historic preservation ordinance and produced its first Historic Preservation Manual; first chairman of the Citizens’ Steering Committee for the Sedona Community Plan Update, 2011; chaired the Mayor’s Committee on Community Enhancement 2009; served on the Sedona Citizens Committee on Growth Issues, the Public Works Advisory Committee, the Transportation Advisory Committee and various others. 

Jim is a full-time volunteer for local non-profit organizations, "to keep his blood moving." Jim was president 1998 of Sedona Historical Society (SHS) when Jordan Historical Park and Sedona Heritage Museum were opened; President in 2009 where he produced wrote and directed two 50-minute videos: “The History of Sedona” and “Oak Creek Legacy – The Story of Sedona.”  He also compiled and published a booklet, “Sedona Filmography and Videography” for SHS and republished Laura Purtymun McBride’s book “Traveling by Tin Lizzie” in 2008. Jim also makes various other DVDs for local organizations.   

In addition, Jim has been a founding member of steering committees for the Friends of the Forest, Sedona Recycles, Action Coalition for Transportation Solutions, and for the Sedona Centennial Steering Committee.  He is a member of Heart of Sedona Task Force, President of Shadow Estates Homeowners Association 1988 and 2005 and member of Friends of KNAU. He also served as a member 2009-2010 of the Yavapai County Committee for Arizona Centennial 2012; member 1999-2006 of the Board of Directors of Arizona Historical Society; Executive Committee and Awards Chairman and Strategic Planning committees; past Secretary of AHS;    Executive committee of Verde Valley Forum for Public Affairs; chairman of Sedona Forum 2008; President ’97 and ’01 of Sedona Academy of Public Affairs. 

Jim’s current interests include history, public service, travel, community planning, videography, classical music, writing, cooking, woodworking, and chocolate.

  

Susan Murrill

Susan Murrill moved to Sedona in 2013, after living in Overland Park, Kansas for 30 years. Susan retired from MGIC as an Account Manager serving several states in the Midwest. Susan and her husband, David, have three children.  They moved to Sedona because of their love of the outdoors. They enjoy hiking, biking, camping and traveling. 
 
For the past two years, Susan has been active in KSB with the Native Plant Workshop and the Business Development committee. She also volunteers with the Friends of the Forest.

Dave Norton 

Dave was born in Rochester NY and came to Phoenix in 1955. He attended Arizona State University and graduated with a BS in Zoology (Pre Med). After working for the U-Haul corporate offices for eight years in finance and then served thirty-two years in law enforcement. During his career, Dave served in a variety of assignments before retiring.  He served eight years on the Domestic Relations Committee of the State Legislature and served on the committee that formed the Family Court Division of the Maricopa County Superior Court.   

Dave obtained a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Northern Arizona University in 1981 and also taught at the ASU Computer Institute. He has held an Arizona real estate license since 1995 and owns Arizona Vistas Realty with his wife Bonnie. Dave and Bonnie also own Spectrum Management Associates and manage a growing portfolio of local homeowner associations.

Hobbies include hiking, mountain biking, skiing, SCUBA diving, travel and photography. Dave is also an accomplished singer and plays piano and harp. Oh, and there's also computers . . . Dave does quite a bit of teaching locally. Dave and Bonnie have lived in Sedona since 2007 but have owned property here since 2001 and have been vacationing here for over forty years. They have six daughters between them and eight grandchildren, all in the Phoenix area.

Dave has served as the Vice President of the Big Park Council, works with the local Veteran's History Project and teaches through the Yavapai College OLLI program. Dave has been active in working on the garden area of KSB as well as coordinating the upgrade of all office equipment and with the Speaker's Series.

Bill Pumphrey
Bill Pumphrey was born in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated from the University of Maryland in 1965. While at the university he met Bonnie and they married in 1964. After graduation Bill and Bonnie relocated to Indiana where they raised two daughters. Bill worked for a major global auto manufacturer with positions in Human Resources, Labor Relations, and Manufacturing. From Indiana they moved to Texas and in 1999 retired to Arizona where they built their home in the Village of Oak Creek. Both daughters now live in Arizona as well.
Bill joined KSB in 2000, was the KSB Vice President from 2001-2002, and served as KSB President from 2003-2005. He is a current board member and leads the famous KSB Litter Lifters corps and works on many other KSB projects. From 2005-2006 Bill also served as Vice President of the Verde Valley Forum for Public Affairs (Sedona Academy). He currently volunteers for the Humane Society of Sedona at its Paw Prints Thrift Shop located in the Village of Oak Creek.
Bill enjoys native plant gardening, woodworking, traveling and reading.

Ann Steinbrunner

John, my husband, and I have been coming to Sedona as homeowners since 1998.  John actually started bringing his young sons out here to go hiking in the Red Rocks since the late 80's. I fell in love with the amazing Red Rocks the first time John brought me to Sedona. 

We have owned a home here for 19years, but only recently started a more consistent visiting pattern of 6 months each year, January to June, after we retired.  My retirement followed 25 years as an RN, plus several years as a Pastoral Minister.

I have always loved the outdoors, the beauty and the smells of nature, and a sense of belonging to nature.  My first experience was with camping as a family vacation. I was 8 years old. Camping is still a part of me.  My two sisters and I have a tradition of camping for a long weekend, once a summer.  This will be our 11th year.

I became a Litter Lifter with KSB a few years ago.  Being a litter lifter, gives me an opportunity to keep Sedona beautiful.  It gives me a feeling of ownership in Sedona and a responsibility to keep Sedona beautiful.
 
 
 
 
 
Craig Swanson
Craig Swanson

Craig spent his formative years in the Midwest, earning a Masters Degree in Theatre and Drama from Indiana University.  In order to earn a living, he learned computer programming, and then enjoyed a 35 year career in IT, eventually working as a Project Manager for implementations of Data Warehouses for State Medicaid Agencies.  And who said a degree in Theatre is worthless?

He and his wife Lynn Zonakis spent 17 years in Minnesota before realizing that life in the frozen tundra is not all it’s cracked up to be.  They had a 5 year detour in Park City Utah before ending their careers in Atlanta where Lynn worked for Delta Air Lines. They finally came to their senses in 2005, and purchased a retirement home in the Village of Oak Creek, gradually spending increasing time in the Sedona area, and moving permanently in 2015. 

In addition to a passion for travel, and an ongoing effort to improve his skills as a cook, Craig volunteers with Friends of the Forest working on trail maintenance, and serves as a docent at the Palatki and V Bar V Heritage Sites.
 
Jo Anne VanDerveer
Jo Anne VanDerveer

Jo Anne fell in love with Sedona while vacationing with friends in the early 90's.   She also fell in love with her husband, Steve, whom she met there.  Jo Anne was living in Boston at the time and after a long distant relationship Steve moved to Boston, but under one condition-- upon retirement, they would move to Sedona.  Fast-forward to 2014 and the JoAnne and Steve moved permanently to Sedona.

Jo Anne worked for over 30 years in the field of Human Resources for a large New England energy company.  Her experience encompassed the areas of organization design and development, employee relations, staffing and compensation.  She earned a Bachelors Degree in Sociology from Boston University, and a Masters Degree in Public Relations, also from Boston University.
