Keep Sedona Beautiful
RESOLUTION
Sedona-Red Rock National Scenic Area Designation (NSA)
Whereas, Keep Sedona Beautiful is dedicated to promoting conservation of the greater Sedona area and, by all practical means, seeks to preserve the unique natural environment and to enhance the quality of life for future generations; and
Whereas, Sedona is a unique town within a forest, surrounded by stunning Red Rock vistas treasured by residents and visitors from around the world; and
Whereas, Amendment 12 of the U.S. Forest Service management plan provides only temporary, not permanent, land-trade protections for the 160,000 acres of forest in and surrounding Sedona; and
Whereas, a proposed NSA designation does not affect any private, state or municipal lands; requires no new administrative authority or layers of government; does not affect local control; permanently protects Sedona’s small-town character while allowing for crucial infrastructure; and is good for business; and
Whereas, 99 percent of KSB members responding to a July 2009 survey support a National Scenic Area designation.
Therefore, be it resolved that the Board of Trustees of Keep Sedona Beautiful declares its support for immediate enactment of a Sedona-Red Rock National Scenic Area designation consistent with the land-trade provisions of Amendment 12 to the current Coconino National Forest Management Plan, and encourages our representatives in the United States Congress to act without delay.
Adopted by the Keep Sedona Beautiful Board of Trustees, Sept. 17, 2009
