Contest Rules

  1. Photos must be taken within the 160,000 acres described as Red Rock Country -- that is, generally bounded on the east by Oak Creek and Munds Mountain Wilderness, on the south by Beaver Creek and House Mountain, on the west by Bill Gray Road, and on the north by the Yavapai-Coconino County line but including West Fork. This is the proposed National Scenic Area. A map of this area is shown on our website www.keepsedonabeautiful.org.

  2. Photos shall have been taken on or after Jan. 1, 2007. Winning photos from previous KSB contests are not eligible to enter.

  3. Photos will be judged on creativity, photographic quality and relevance to the contest theme, "Capture the Wonder" of this region. One might ask "What is the wonder" of this area; your photos will help to define it -- natural and scenic, perhaps partly man-made wonders great or small. No more than basic photo editing or retouching is permitted. No compositing will be permitted.

  4. Entrants will be judged in two categories – color or black-and-white -- with two divisions in each category: professional and amateur.

  5. Photos can express the wonder of our Red Rock Country by either daytime or nighttime; we encourage both. Photos depicting the wonder of our dark skies must contain some identifiable geographic feature to identify it as within the region described in Item 1 above.

  6. Photos are to be submitted at http://www.keepsedonabeautiful.org/photocontest_2009entryform.html. Send photos in JPEG format not to exceed 5X7 inches at 72 dpi. Photos may be in color or black-and-white. Each photo must be named; do not submit photos with the original camera file name. No part of the image file name shall identify the photographer or entrant. Example: red rock surprise.jpg instead of Smithredrock.jpg. KSB will use the low-resolution images for judging, and will ask for high-resolution images when winners have been chosen.

  7. Each entrant may submit up to three photos in each category (color or black-and-white). If recognizable people appear in any photo, a release signed by each person is required and must be submitted with the entry. The entry form, release forms and these contest rules appear on our website or may be requested at the KSB office (2 to 5 pm weekdays), by phone 928.282.4938, or fax 928.203.1764.

  8. The First Place winner in each category will receive $100. The Grand Prize winner will receive an additional $100.

  9. Deadline for submission is January 15, 2010. Winning entries will be announced at the KSB Awards Luncheon to be held at Los Abrigados Resort and Spa on Feb. 14, 2010 and will be displayed in various Sedona locations and throughout the year on the KSB website. A press release to local media will also announce the winners.

  10. In consideration of keep Sedona Beautiful providing entrant with the potential of gaining public recognition for the photos that are submitted, entrant agrees that in submitting photos, entrant grants to Keep Sedona Beautiful a non-exclusive, royalty free license to practice all of the rights provided to entrant under the current copyright law.

  11. Members of the KSB Board of Directors, the contest committee, the judging panel or their families are not eligible to enter. Decision by the judges will be final.
