KSB Virtual Speaker Series – Barry Mallis
November 10 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
Barry Mallis will speak on Sedona’s Paleogeology.
Barry is a volunteer at Red Rock State Park who provides guided nature walks with an emphasis on the geology of our immediate region. He also helps lead the park’s geology hikes on the second Sunday of every month during the cooler months. He’s a member of KSB, and an active litter picker!
Spending most of his adult life in the Green and White mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire, Barry has been an educator for over fifty years. Immediately before his semi-retirement in 2016, he was Executive Director of a group of family-owned learning centers in the flatlands of South Florida.
A graduate of Oberlin and recipient of a Master’s degree from Middlebury, he has worked in independent school classrooms teaching English, modern languages (Spanish, French and Russian), and theatre. The recipient of a N.A.I.S. Braitmayer Foundation Fellowship, he studied mime and movement with Jacques Lecoq in Paris in order to prepare a curriculum for teaching Mime at the secondary school level.
Currently, Barry helps students virtually as they prepare their application essays for boarding school, college, graduate, law, medical/dental, or business school admission – hence, his semi-retired status.
Since moving to Sedona in 2016, Barry and his wife Melanie have immersed themselves in the Red Rock Country. He enjoys hiking the trails just yards from his house. His love of geology could not have found a better milieu than that of Central Arizona.
